We strive to breed only the best in our Bernese.

All of our puppies & dogs are first and foremost wonderful companions!
We compete in conformation with our dogs and love the versatility,  intelligence and trainability of this wonderful breed!
Our goal is to not only promote the Bernese Mountain Dog breed as a wonderful show dog but as an "all around" family dog,
and an awesome companion all rolled in to one package! We are committed to the betterment of the breed.

SnoBear Berners is located in the foothills of beautiful Northern California.

NOTE:

Although our puppies are born, and raised in our home,
they also have their own, safe, outdoor area tucked away in the rear of our home.
They have a fenced cement area (for wet days) a covered area with mist system
and raised beds to play under during warm spells,
and a big grassy area with rocks placed for varied footing textures and gentle climbing, and pipes to crawl through!
On summer days we usually fill up a kiddie pool for them with a few inches of water.
There is also a 12' X 12' covered, misted kennel for their safety if I need to leave them unattended for a brief time.
It ensures that they stay dry & warm, or cool & shady. : )

SnoBear's One Of A Kind - Piggy

Jeff and Ernie at the lake.

Mary and Cocoa

Hi, We are Jeff & Mary Chapdelaine,
Jeff and I, and our "SnoBears" live in California. We have three grown children and six grandsons and two granddaughters! The puppies love to play and interact with the children. Our puppies go to their new homes at the age of 8 weeks. While here they are socialized with children, adults, dogs, and our cats. They are used to playing on the grass with toys, and a tunnel that they love to run through and jump on! We expose them to many noises including vacuums, music, television, etc. They are born in our home, and stay in their whelping box beside our bed until they are old enough to start venturing out. At that point they start having access to our grassy yards where the romp and play! They have been raised with much loving care and attention. They are our babies.

Jeff & I were both raised on large California ranches.
My Dad raised Hereford, and Angus cattle, and my Mom bred, raised, and showed AQHA REG. Quarter horses, and German Shepherd Dogs. So our experience with animals is lifelong. Jeff and I have been exhibitors, and breeders of record with AKC since 1984.

All of our dogs live in the house with us. We have only one breed of dogs, the Bernese Mt. Dog. We feel it is best to focus all our time, energy, and research into one breed.

We are very active in conformation and offer to handle our show quality puppies free of charge for their owners.

If you were to ask us, What are your top three breeding goals?
Our Answer to you would be excellence in:

#1. Temperament: Without the correct temperament, you won't be happy with your dog.

#2. Hardiness: A hardy Dog is not at the vet often due to chronic illnesses.

#3. Longevity: You want your Good Tempered, Healthy Pet to live a long life.

We stive to breed puppies that are sound in structure & movement, but a dog also needs to be sound in mind, and body.

All of our breeding stock has been screened by OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) or GDC, (Genetic Disease Control) and CERF, (Canine Eye Registration Foundation) We breed Medium size Bernese Mountain dogs, correct to the American standard. We place all of our puppies with a written contract and written health guarantees.

Even the most well bred puppies can have medical issues that require vet care. Also, in case of accidents, or as your pet ages you may need vet care. We strongly recommend that every puppy owner obtains a Pet Insurance Policy for their puppy right away. A Pet Insurance Policy gives you peace of mind to know that you will have more time to think about your pet, and less about vet bills should a medical issue arise.

Pet/Companion quality puppies are REQUIRED to be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age.

Pet/Companion puppies are placed on Limited Registration with AKC.

All Show Quality puppies are placed on a Co-Ownership basis.

Anyone interested in adopting one of our puppies, needs to fill in our adoption questionnaire.

PLEASE NOTE: This adoption questionnaire is not a form to purchase a puppy.
It is only used to indicate to us that you are interested in a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy and your information helps us determine if we might have a puppy that would fit into your family and lifestyle.

We take our job as breeders very seriously.
Our puppies depend on us to make sure that they are placed in loving family homes, who have the time and love needed to raise a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, and make a commitment to care for, love, train, and provide medical care for the life of their pet.

Deciding to get a puppy is a BIG decision, and should be thought out VERY carefully.
Adopting a puppy is much like adding a newborn human baby to your family.
The house must be puppy proofed, the puppy needs to be potty trained, will need to get up to go potty several times per night in the beginning, and needs to be trained, fed 3 times per day, exercised, socialized, and be given all it's puppy shots.
Hopefully you are willing to make at least a 12 year commitment.

Our puppies are not a "Commodity" to us, they are our "babies".
Our puppies placed in family homes, not to be kennel dogs.
We stay in contact with our puppies and their owners throughout the lifetime of their dog, and are available to offer help and advice 24 hrs. per day, 7 days per week.

If, for any reason, no matter what the age of the dog, an owner of a SnoBear bred Berner has to give up his/her dog, we require by contract, that that dog comes back to us.
We feel that we, as their breeders know what is best for each of our babies, and that this will ensure that our puppies do not end up in the wrong place.

We offer to baby-sit our puppies for their owners, while they go on vacation.

This enables us to spend time with the dogs we've produced, evaluate their temperament, personality, structure, and movement.
This provides us with valuable information as to how our breeding program is succeeding, and what we might like to improve, or retain in the next breeding

It also enables our puppies to stay in a safe, fun environment, with other Bernese Mountain dogs, while their owners can relax, and enjoy their vacation knowing their dog is having fun too!

Some of our puppy owners call us,"Camp SnoBears."
